Getting the thank you cards done

Writing thank you cards after your wedding can be a daunting task but with these quick tips, it will be as easy as pie.

Thank you is what you say to every guest, family and friend that send you a wedding gift. Thank You cards by InvitationsAffair.com

1.       Write thank you cards as soon as you receive the wedding gifts.
While many etiquette experts say that brides have up to five weeks after the wedding, it will be less daunting if you do them a few at a time.

2.       Split up the work.
Although typically more thank you cards are written by the bride, there’s no reason why the groom shouldn’t be pitching in. After all, he’ll get to enjoy the gifts as well. An easy way is for each person to be responsible for writing to their own friends and family.
3.       Avoid the need to be creative.
You may want to write more personal cards to close friends and family, but don’t spend a lot of time trying to be especially witty or original.
Family and friends won’t be sharing their thank you notes with each other, so you can repeat certain phrases. You also don’t need to try to write an essay. A few well-written and polite sentences are all that is needed.
4.       Create a thank-you-card-writing station.
If you gather some nice small cards, pens, stamps, and your wedding gift list, you’ll be able to dash out a note quickly and efficiently without giving yourself any reasons for procrastination.
5.       Use your invitation list as a handy address book and checklist.
Most brides today use some sort of spreadsheet or computer program to organize their invitation lists. Create an additional column to write down the gift each guest gave and a checkbox for when you’ve written the thank you card. Not only will this keep you organized, but it will help you avoid having to search for guests’ addresses all over again

Wedding Favors in Boxes

wed_sp2000_favors_06.jpg

Ensconced in tiny, exquisitely decorated boxes, a few candies or a slice of groom’s cake become delightful gifts for guests to take with them at the end of the celebration. You can easily prepare the favors in large quantities if you use an assembly-line approach, but start early to avoid a last-minute rush.

Start with plain, inexpensive boxes, and fill them with anything you like: a souvenir from the city you are marrying in; a scented soap; or a few scrumptious cookies, chocolates, or other sweets. And be sure to consider how best to display the finished favors. You might arrange them in rows on a large table by the door, pile them in bowls for centerpieces, or set them at each guest’s place — perhaps even having them serve double duty as place cards.

Here are a few of our favorite ways to decorate favor boxes:

1. A paper ribbon printed with poetry binds a stack of boxes (top left).

2. A blue ribbon threaded through the lid and sides and secured with knots creates a handle for this box.

3. This package is sealed with a personalized label made using a rubber stamp.

4. A copper-cord tie is finished with a monogrammed wax seal.

5. Buttons make charming closures: Punch holes in the box’s lid for the button, slip wire through, and fasten on the underside; tie a ribbon to the button’s base, loop it around the box, and wrap to secure.

6. The message on this lilac scroll was calligraphed, then photocopied onto the paper.
